I think we are all missing the point here.

Whya are you bying BFG A/T's?

I have had mine for only 12 months and am getting them replaced tomorrow because I have had so many problems with them.

Really I am getting them because I have mainly heard good reports and want a A/T tyre of light truck construction on 16" 70/ 245. In this size Coopers are the passenger tyre construction.

Please tell of your problems with the BF Goodrich A/T's.

    Thanks Adrian.

    BFGs

I meant to ask why but forgot? I had them on a Disco and they barely lasted 44,000klms on not very heavy driving.
I've got General Grabber TR on the Defender and so far 65,000klms and the way they're going I reckon 100,000 easy.
We've done the GRR and many other gravel roads not as rough as that and there's very little chipping or cuts at all.
I'm doing up a 300Tdi Defender and will certainly look at Generals to replace whats on there now ........ BFGs!!!
    Regards.
    Alan.

Yes, I have them in exactly the same size that you are getting and I got them for exactly the same reason. Since I bought the old Range Rover the Discovery only gets used for easy touring and everyday driving.

BUT.....I have had heaps of problems.

On the road they are fine. They are quiet, seem to have good wear etc.

But everytime I have taken them bush, they have been damaged. The main problem is they seem to have very little sidewall strangth. Even at 40psi with the Disco empty, the sidewals bulge a little bit. Then if I let them down to about 26psi off-road, the sidewalls bag out dramatically and in the past 3 trips I have ripped open a sidewall 2 times. (very expensive)

I am doing another desert trip in the middle of the year and I do not trust them enough to keep using them. I am getting MTR's fitted tomorrow. The MTR's are slightly noisier on the road, but they have always been fantastic for me when touring.

So, I have 4 very nice BFG A/T's 4 sale!

    i've got white lettering out.

But can't wait to get rid of them as i have not been happy with them. Mine seem to have chipped badly.

That's just great! Just when I thought I had decided on a tyre and some of you guys have had some problems. Now I am put off a bit.

Any suggestions on what to go for. I want A/T's 245 R16/ 70 and has to be simaliar to light truck construction. As said above only found out through checking Coopers in this size is passenger construction not light truck construction.

Please help all. Open to all suggestions.

Toyo do a tyre in that size IIRC. I would think the price would be pretty good too.

I had BFG KO on my Rodeo. It was white in colour so I think the white lettering showing on the tyres looked pretty cool

Now I have a very dark grey in colour Discovery and I have some very worn MT/Rs on it and they have the white lettering not showing which I think looks better on a darker car.

As for the BFGs quality I had them in 225/75 16 on the Rodeo and they performed fairly well given that they were an A/T. They got chipped and had cuts in the tread area and sidewalls but I never had a puncture. These were used all the time so on road, 4x4 parks etc. I even remember smoking them when going up a rocky track at Janowen 4wd Park and still no issues. They were the made in USA ones which are rumoured to be better quality but I wouldn't know for sure.
I put 31in MT/Rs on my Rodeo when the BFGs wore out. The BFGs had 70000kms on them when changed but are still going strong on my camper trailer. In comparison I had very little cutting and no chipping on the MT/Rs (probably couldn't spin them ). The MT/R side wall looked pretty good after a few trips whereas the BFG sidewalls looked like crap after a few similar trips.
However that is comparing a mud terrain to an all terrain.
