V8s are great but suck juice like there is no tomorrow like 20l/100ks, especially if you're city based. Country running is maybe down to 15l/100 depending how you drive.
Diesels use maybe half that, but have an ongoing maintenance schedule and everyone here will tell you, don't buy a diesel vers (of anyhting) without a full service maintenance history. D2 diesels have the 'loctite bolt' issue as well, if you get a D2diesel this must be addressed or big $$$$....

I run a seven seat Disco 1 V8 auto 'cause I occasionally need the extra seats, I know my way 'round V8s and the D1 can go anywhere I want to go. I don't care if it gets the odd scratch wandering along our narrow bush tracks or passes thru sandy bogs. I wouldn't push a nice shiny new(ish) one, I'd like it to stay new(ish)
