Might have something to do with the vehical laws here, something about height of lights and protruding. they seem to do both.

I just perused the Queensland Transport regulations pertaining to accessory lighting and I am pretty sure these things would be considered very naughty by a transport inspector or better informed than usual copper.

yuck, like a scene out of a horror movie
I would think they would not be on the legal side over here in nsw, I remember the tyre bitters used to measure the driving lights as there was some spec as to how far off the road they could be. too technical for me.
But then with the national road rules maybe the specs changed with the regs.
