As a land rover fan this upsets me to hear, not the fact that you are getting an 07 defender thats awsome, but the fact that dealerships just dont stock them for people to test drive. How would a hardware store or an electrical store go having an empty shop with pictures on the shelves for people to look at and then make an order. People need to see something to buy it, a picture in a book just doesnt sell vehicles unless the person knows what they are buying or simply wants one and thats it. Land Rover Australia needs to do something fast. Matt

    Sounds like a date We can compare a 05 to a 07

That would be good, Captain. In the interim, I've even considered attempting to follow you blokes on a LR trip using my MTB!

Yes - they did originally tell me June 2007 - in November 2006, when very little was known about the vehicle at all. I guess they were saying - "don't expect it any time soon". Intruiging too that you've followed my utterings on this topic in such a precise manner .

My point is that I have been updated and kept informed with what I regard as truthful information..

Time will tell regarding price - I don't agree that the price will rise substantially - but let's see - I would have thought that the UK pricing would be somekind of a guide though.

I put this point to the Marketing manager at Landrover at Gaydon and he confirmed that it was a real head-scratcher. Obviously no dealership is going to want a Defender demonstrator sitting around the showroom for the occasional customer to tyre-kick. Even if it was the sales managers personal run-about what urban LR dealer is going to chose a Defender as their company car over say a Range Rover.

The option to order "subject to test drive" is flawed. What if ALL of us placed orders then when a ship-load of new Defenders turn up, we all reject them based on being just "not happy"? How would that work out?

During my tour of the LR factory last week, the tour guide made an interesting point. Whenever there is discontent amongst Defender, Landrover nuts they all come charging out in protest however, very few hard-core Defender owners can claim to have purchased new vehicles themselves (I know I bought a "near-new" one rather than a "new new" one). Based on that user profile, Landrover prefer to court the commercial market and leave the rest of us to shop in the used car market or make the odd, rash, blind purchase.

Sorry, but I plan to give the new Defender about a year's teething before negotiating an upgrade. If, however, anyone from Landrover is monitoring this then rest assured I WILL purchase new if the product measures up to the sales hype but not without a 24hr test drive. I am sure there are others so get us some demos!!!

In 1973-75, we were quoting RR delivery as maybe 6 months with no idea when or if one would be available or what colour, with or without power steering, or cloth or vinyl seats. Order one to be in the queue. Series III station wagons were quoted on the basis of if and when available, no idea when that may be. LR in the USS British Isles had sold almost the entire production to the UN to go to Bangla Desh or similar funny country.

That would be because I've been waiting to buy the new version for the last 2 1/2 years and reading every scrap I can find about release date. I've also had a couple of bad experiences buying off Austral...

In my opinion it's highly unlikely the Defender will be priced under the base model Frelander 2.

RRP of the Td5 has been 47,950 for a long time, or about 52K OTR. But they've been advertised often for 48K OTR.

The new model won't be discounted. Studying the UK specs I'm expecting mid 50's OTR without AC, ABS or Traction and if so, that puts it into a different game.

[quote=Scallops;515417]I ordered mine in November 2006 so waiting 7 more months is a piece of cake .

Horses have an 11 month gestation period. It's just how long you have to wait for a trusty steed
