Its a case of "damned if you do damned if you don't"
If they hadn't issued a warning and a tsunami had ensued then we would all be asking questions, so they issued a warning and nothing eventuated.
A lot of people would have heard tsunami and immediately equated it with Boxing day 2004.
According to the news they closed all beaches along the NSW coast (had problems at Bondi), evacuated Manly Public school, and shut down some ferries. Where was my son? - out on a school excursion on the harbour.

Well, up here in the Solomons, it's a different story. We were tasked to fly over the affected areas today, in addition to medivac operations. The sea level appears to have risen significantly, swallowing whole villages, which are built very closely along the coastline. As the water has receded, it has taken whole houses, boats and people with it. What was idealic, crystal clear water, has turned a muddy, milky, opaque colour.
Two landing strips on different islands, are unserviceable, until trees can be removed. We expect to get a clearer idea of casulties and damage to facilities tomorrow.
The thing that struck me, was how long the earthquake went on for.....60 to 90 seconds....thats a long time for the ground to shake at 7.7 odd, on the richter scale.....
