A few (not that many) years ago the UK train operator purchased new electric trains. Was only when they were delivered it was realized they drew more power from the lines than the system provided and so could not be used
[bigrolf] A simple case of some extremely well paid dope not doing their essential Pre-ordering Homework. I bet he/she still works for Network Rail to this day while the units were disposed of to Kindergartens Sandpits for them to play Trains on, or were concrete mounted at the front gate as RAF style Gate Guardians .[bigrolf]
I knew a guy who was a painter and he worked with or was business partners with a guy whose brother-in-law was an engineer with Qld Rail. While they were waiting for paint to dry, furniture to be moved, etc, his mate would ring the BIL for fun and ask what he was doing, and he was never working, rather was looking after kids, at the movies, doing shopping, in the park, etc!
I had a mate who worked at Qld rail out Ipswich way,who has since retired.
They used to take turns clocking each other on and off,so some days, some shifts, they didn't even have to turn up.[bigsad][biggrin]
Those jobs only came about after I retired. Prior to then it was Honesty Time Books & Job #s & prior to that, the Boss would always knew what time you clocked On & Off..:rulez: Didn't occur to him though that he would rock up @1030 & his bruv @ 2230. But he was the Boss so his privilege I guess.[biggrin]
Funny olde word that, "Honesty" Not sure if it even exist these days & if it does who would even know what it means?
Cynical? Moi? [bigrolf]
