The problem is that it has a new toner cartridge in it. Now I need to buy a new toner cartridge for my HP4M Plus network printer.

Oh if only you were a week earlier.

Not kidding, I had a 4L on the back of the truck last week and got tired of carting it about so left it on the street. Little monsters kicked it to death. I dumped it in a skip next door.

If there's a specific part I can check it out for you.

    Cheers
    Simon.

    Unbelievable!

I suspect the power supply or intelligent sensing circuitry has died. If it's been disconnected from the mains for a while, when the power lead is reinserted, all 4 lights flash briefly but that's it. If the printer is still there and the PS is available.......

They were a top little printer and hardy as heck.

I can survive with the networked HP4M+ once it has a new cartridge but I'll keep an eye out for a cheap 4L. There are a couple on eVilbay but they are in Melbourne.

I bought my son two brand new HP ink jet printers for Christmas (the second printer was cheaper than spare ink cartridges). He told me that the first printer gave an out of ink message after printing 2 pages. Yes, I picked them up from the shelf at Hardly Normal. Silly me!

Ya wouldn't believe it, between now and then some scrounger has come and taken the whole skip away.

I'll keep an eye out. I stopped picking up laser printers when they dropped below $150 new.

    Cheers
    Simon.

Thanks Simon. My wife showed me the new Aldi caltalogue - a Tally colour laser for under $400. I suppose it would cost a fortune in toner.
It's a TallyGenicom 8108N - the reviews seem positive - and it's a network printer. However, my current network printer, the HP4M Plus, is Mac compatible.

Had it happen again today. DVD player broke, bought it new before christmas. Plugged in one I picked up off the side of the road last week, came with the remote taped to the top. Only problem with it was being set to output NTSC. Picture is better than the shop one ever did.

    cheers

I'm keeping up to speed. I bought a tube of silicone rubber to seal more leaks in the Disco. I opened it later in the th day and 30 km or more from the shop and found it was rock solid!.

Now my iPaq has decided that it won't recognise the GPS (says " unrecognized card" - or is it "card not recognized") nor the WiFi cards (does nothing at all) nor will any of the buttons work.

During the week I bought a ticket on the Greyhound bus from Derby to Broome.

It was supposed to leave Derby at 5am today. It arrived very late - the clutch had failed as had the front air springs suspension - shades of a P38A.

They finally got going 2 hours late and got to Roebuck Roadhouse to be met by a replacement bus. We swapped to the new bus and would you believe it was faulty, too - the driver couldn't get any gears!

To make it worse I knocked back a free ride from the Derby Bus Company when it arrived (it normally leaves 1 hour later than the Greyhound) - I said I'd wait for the Greyhound.

To compound my stupidity in knocking back the Derby bus (which was empty) was that the Greyhound was full of smokers and many, umm, locals, who stank of BO (the pax didn't smoke on the bus but they all got off when it was stopped with problems and lit up like mad then got back on with their stinking breath).

At least you seem to have a big sense of humour about your misadventures, Ron.

Misfortune does seem to follow you around, doesn't it?

A bloke on another UK LR forum I visit, is very similar to you, you'll be pleased to hear.

One time he was on a Cherry Picker outside an upstairs window, the thing got a bit unstable & he fell.............................................. .................................................. .....................through the window & landed inside.
Every day he creates chaos no matter what he is doing or where he is. I'm amazed he ain't dead. Just lucky I guess.

He's been called many things as you can imagine, but oddly enough never Frank Spencer.
