What you need is a Mexican Mcculloch trimmer.
Mine is now about 20 years old and has never had a new plug. Starts first time .
So old that the fuel line rotted away. Cost a whole $5 to fix.
My tap feed base is looking pretty second hand but still working.
BTW, when I looked at the photo you had posted I wondered if you could just dispense with the outer plastic thing and cut a couple of slits in the top of the line spool to hold the twine while you slip the twine through the outer holes. Assuming the trimmer has a couple of steel reinforced holes for the spool to go through.

And I'm hearing you on the small petrol engine ones. I bought a new Stihl a while back - have since given it away (my young bloke has it round at his house). It was the most temperamental mongrel of a thing I've ever owned. Cheap battery powered Ryobi ones for me now. I have two of them, one never used (I picked it up as part of a "package deal" with a small blower that I wanted). If or when the old one dies, the spare will come down off the wall in the shed. If that one dies, I'll throw it in the bin and buy another - they're that cheap. I bought the same "package deal" (line trimmer and blower) for my mum and her partner last time I was in Tassie. They love them.
