I've already replaced the engine a year or so ago.

It's not misfiring biut it's down on power and vibrating quite bady.

I drove another P38A yesterday and it's smooth up to at least 5000 rpm. Mine vibrates at idle, then smooths out a bit then from about 2700 rpm it gets really, really rough like it's badly out of balance.

If it wasn't down on power. I'd suspect something else.

For your classic, the 3.9 option you've been offered seems a god way to go.

I went up to KLR Auto this arvo and after helping them put all the cars away, I drove off.

Oops! As I came out of the complex, I touched the brakes and the car didn't stop. No brake pressure from the booster. Without pressure the P38A is almost unstoppable.

I turned around and went back - the remianing blokes were just leaving so they left me in charge of the workshop and told me to lock up when I left - only the apprentice and the office staff were there. Matt was at a wedding and Brad had left for Tamworth.

I soon narrowed it down to the pressure pump not running (I have added a light to the dash to tell me if it is running). After a fair bit of testing, reading RAVE, and using their diagnostic computer, I found the booster pump pressure switch was giving the wrong indications. I removed the ABS pump relay, bypassed it, and the pump ran (I have a set of relay bypass leads in the glovebox - I've used them in the past for other things).

Hmm, so put the relay back in and I gave the pump pressure switch a tap with a hammer and it all sprang to life. I soon had brake pressure and was able to come home (monitoring the dashboard light to check the pump ran when needed).

Unfortunately, the switch is not sold separately and one has to buy the whole pump STC2783 at a very high price - the last time I checked it was just under $2000.

It doesnt normally rain in Broome in May. I was wondering why there was a bus running up and down the runway on Wednesday night. They must have been practising for an emergency landing!!
As for your hotel visitor welcome to Broome. We are having heaps of problems with these types as they drift in from the rest of the Kimberley to take advantage of the cheaper alcohol and spend the rest of their time fighting, sleeping, stealing and defecating in front of the tourists.
No one has the guts to make a stand and move them out to where they come from.
