    Disco2 owners TYRE WARNING

    Hi Guys
How many of you Disco2 pilots are wearing BFG All Terrains/Mud Terrains,Cooper ST STC STT etc?????? plus the others I havent checked.
DO YOU REALISE NONE OF THESE TYRES IN ANY SIZE MEET THE SPEED RATING FOR A D2!!!!!!!
We could be in for trouble come prang time.
My tyre placard states a minimum speed rating of T which is 190kph.I doubt even Pedros BIG V8 will do that down a BIG HILL!!!!.
None of the above tyre makers have off-road tyres in that rating.
Gets back to when I first bought BlackBetty,3 tyre shops REFUSED to even quote on and mud tyres. No reason was given.
I cant belive the TD5 is rated at 190ks,NOT POSSIBLE,even with Tombraiders help!!!!!!
    Is mine placarded wrong????
This is going to creat a heap of interest I bet!!!!!

The speed rating isn't an issue. I had this out with the dealer when I bought my 03 Disco as it came with H rated Wrangler HP's and they wouldn't swap them because they would be putting a lower speed rated tyre on. From what I've been told by insurers etc. The key requirement is the weight rating of the tyres.

    Thumbs down Tyre blow out

I drive a 96 Disco TDI for this story.
I, at christmas time, had a tyre let go, as I can't say who/what it was incase I get deleted, I'll sit back with a Coopers and tell my story.
Towing a trailer (100-150kgs load) at 100-110ks (out back Vic) with my wife + 3 boys l/h rear lets go and destroys the 1/4 panel, $1300 damage, and for a short period we, inc me, were all passengers.
Now, these (rear) tyres were on the front lucky no one was coming the other way as I "used" all the road to stop. Anyway on further looking found r/h rear starting to "crack". There was only 1/4 of the tread left on the tyre and rust mark about the size of a small plate on steelbelt when we collected what was left over about 200m of road.
I approached said dealer on my return and they sent out their rep, long story short all tyres were replaced, 3x them (in good faith) 2x by me and they paid my excess on ins for repairs, 3mths after the fact due to a few nice and not so nice ph calls/emails.
Now this is were it gets worrying for all concerned with 4wd tyres ladies and gents.
My tyres did not have M & S stamped on them, they say these tyres were not made for 4wds, they checked and found the previous owner had brought them from a dealer in Sydney who was infact an authrorised seller of this brand, so they had no leg to stand on. They replaced these with L/T (light truck tyres) of this brand and I purchased some new heavy duty jocks and still have finger marks on the dash from the boss, (wife) didn't know she could put so many swear words into a sentance
My ins (WQBE) informed me that this could have been a "funny" one, there rep came out and took photo's of the car and tyre/s and we had a talk of the situation.
How many of you out there fall into this situation?????????????

You simply need to advise your insurance co of the change of tyre.
Speed rating is not a big issue as dm_td5 said, it's the load rating which is critical.
slipedisk, those tyres were probably as old as the car. The rust you saw in the belts says there was a puncture at some time that was not repaired correctly, probly had a sticky string bunged in it.

We went through this in the LROC recently. It boils down to load not speed rating due to the fact that nowhere in this country now can you exceed 120KMh legally. If you are exceeding the speed rating of the tyre you wont be insured anyway.

    Justin you are the man!!!!
I hope what you say is good,I would love a set of 235/85 MTRs for the D2.
Im guessing I need an OK from the insurance CO,that sticker on the door is the be all and end all legally!!!!!
Yes I assume its an international rating.
