It's the plastic insert that the screw right in front of the ash tray hole that holds the dash top down, screws into. mine is orange, yours may be different colour or they may have changed the way the dash is held down, but its factory on mine.

I'm surprised (and impressed) at how stable the picture is even with the picture stabiliser turned off - I expected a lot more camera shake and vibration. The mount is obviously very solid and yet beautifully simple - the best kind of mod.

I've spent quite a bit of time playing in the Ashley myself - a group of us in the club used to go up there on Sunday afternoons - up around the confluence with the Okuku with our kids (er... 10 -12 years ago). (BTW I've written to CLROC to rejoin as an associate member.)

Nice job - and you've given me a great idea for how to mount the SatNav!

Hmmm maybe I shut the doors a bit quick on my Helmet camera business..... as the other thread stated I will have to hook up some bullet cameras & show what can be done with outside footage..

Manfrotto make good cheap stuff. Usually a good clamp,

I have used this system to great effect on bullbars, chasis, roof racks and door frames. Just check out all the In-Car stuff on Coffs harbour DVD with 4x4 Monthly. Easy quick and bullet proof.

Always tie your cams off with a safety line, even inside the car. The small threaded plate on the bottom of almost all video cameras is not a heavy duty mount.

For slow speed stuff leave the stabiliser on, for high speed driving turn it off. The stabilser wont be able to recover and will vibrate at a higher speed than the car and you wont see much!

Also try to set the iris and focus manually. They tend not to like looking through windscreens.... and make sure you frame out any hot spots on bonnets or the bush and mud hole will be black and the sun spot on your bonet will be rosy!
