    Diesel and Petrol in WA

For those who think it matters which brand of servo you go to - I was talking to one of the bigwigs from BP the other day, and he said that: ALL FUEL sold from Esperance to Port Hedland comes from the BP Kwinana Refinery. NO MATTER WHICH BRAND OF SERVO YOU BUY IT FROM!!!

The only exceptions to this are LPG, about half comes from the BP Refinery, and half from Wesfarmers (the other exception is BioD - before someone else says it).

There have been a few misinformed posts in the past. But there is no real competition anywhere in Australia. See the map below - as best there is a duopoly in any one state. Only the far north of QLD and WA and the NT get imported fuel (from asia).

There was fuel coming into Kwinana (Perth) from Singapore at one stage. Not sure if this is still the case.
I know there is only one fuel supplier in WA in general (some differences eg SAFF supply some on the Eyre Hwy in WA and private importers), but why is there a noticeable difference in the way the fuel burns. Generally I have found that BP burns quicker, higher fuel consumption in both standard unleaded and diesel, Shell and Caltex better with Mobil being the best (if there are any Mobils left in WA) at similar conditions. Additives or grades of fuel must come in to play somewhere??

    The map's slightly inaccurate now.

More fuel is shipped per annum into the Esperance Port (mostly for the mining industry) than is used by the entire state of Victoria over the same period.

I use BP as I was told (don't know how true it is) that Caltex has a higher sulpher content (which D3 no like).

I only put the map there to show refinery locations. AFAIK the only change to that is the closure of the Port Stanvac Refinery in 2003. Probably 80+% of the fuel you buy in Esperance still comes from BP Kwinana - no matter where you buy it from.

i pay around 1.24 without discount... give or take a few cents.. in whats classed as the 'Metro' area Diesel is pretty stable price wise... whereas petrol goes up about 15c a litre once a week,.... then falls back about 14c a litre over the following week.... god knows what remote deisel goes for tho' i seem to remember about 1.38+ on the way to jurien bay.. but i know that not what you class as remote
