Tyre diameter (rim) has been tried before, the EU might like to think they'll try it again (too many bureaucrats with nothing to do) but, I'd be surprised to see if it got any traction.

Has eventually worked with tv screens tho'....

So what's a 27" pushbike rim? My old Peugeot race pushbike has Michelins with tyre diameter in inches..... must annoy the Frogs no end......

The old man had a cuppla Citroen CXs with some bizarre wheel/rim diameter, a millimetric size, was nearly impossible to find tyres for.......other than Miche's for about a zillion $$$ (or was that Francs)...

His new Citroen (C5) has alloy wheels (stock) measured in inches.....on Michelins.....

Peugeot and Citroen were the only manufacturers to try the metric tyre/rim combos AFAIK - and only for a few years in the mid/late 80's.

    Yeah,

    everyone seems to have the idea, but check;
    Tyre Calculator

which i find very useful for comparing your stock tyres to those your dreaming about.

Ford fitted them to one model of Fairlane too.

    Really ??

Jaguar had metrics with the XJ40 too. What a PITA they were when trying to source tyres .

I have one of those too, as does my Dad. I'm thinking of putting it to use again soon.........I haven't got past the thinking stage though.

I posted this in another thread. May as well reproduce it in this one.

Here's the maths behind it all.

    Let's start with a 31 x 10.5 x 15

    Width is 10.5 x 25.4 = 266.7
    Aspect Ratio is (31-15)/2/10.5*100=76.2
    Wheel dia=15
    Therefore a 31x10.5x15 is approx 265/75/15

    Now going the other way
    225/75/16 is:

    Height is 225/75/2/1000*2.54+16=29.3
    Width is 225/25.4=8.86
    Wheel dia =16
    Therefore a 225/75/16 is approx 29x8.9x16

Also any other info that I may have missed, apologies for my stupidity.

Yep, around the XE, XF era. They are a solid wheel (no slots, holes, etc) in alloy. You can pick them up very cheap, not surprisingly, as the tyres are very expensive.
