    New Defender again..

Surfing last night, & found some not so good snippets

Plenty of controversy about the transit engine, & timing chain tensioner failures.

But the gearbox.. This from Dave Ashcroft

"you are assuming the 6 speed is a good box, not necessarily, they are failing a lot in the transits but I am told the landrover version is improved,"

    http://www.devon4x4.com/forum/viewtopic.php't=2970

And scuttlebut about clutches & t/cases

    http://www.devon4x4.com/forum/viewtopic.php't=2034

Let's hope the new model & well & truly sorted out before it arrives!

    Regards
    Max P

That is an area of concern to me also as the poms seem to have had a lot of troubles with their transmissions over the years.

Well - I certainly hope any issues are resolved before the new Defender get out here but after reading the 2 threads in the original post I wouldn't have concluded that there is "plenty of controversy regarding the new gearbox etc".

A couple of posters raised issues - others put forward alternative thoughts. There well may be issues, but I didn't get too concerned reading these threads.

Why oh why didn't they slot in the auto? Surely that wouldn't have been too hard.

I can't see me ever buying another new vehicle, nothing is built to last any more.

Even if I was intending to buy one, I'd leave it for at least a year before ordering. I've been ginea pig once. Never again

We'll be keeping ours though as we've only just finished setting it up

Why, oh why dont they release the Defender with the new Rangie TDV8, now that would be something to compete with the new Cruiser, although I'd settle for a TDV8 D3 as well ))
