Anyone got some pics of a shovel holder that goes over the spare wheel on a Disco and bolts on with the spare wheel nuts.
I have an Idea of what to do but I just want a pic or 2 to confirm what Im thinking of and maybe refine my idea a bit more to save a bit of time.
Im also wanting pics of a high lift holder for the side of a roofrack and also a shovel holder for a long handled shovel for the roof rack as well.
It's time I got around to these small projects that ive been meaning to do for ages and seems we wont be going away much through winter I should get to it and get them done.

Brown Davis used to make an Alloy one. Here's a rather poor pic of it on my old disco.
Two things were wrong with it:
1) Made of alloy and had to be rewelded (welds cracked) twice
2) Only held a very small bladed shovel
That said the concept was very good and if I was making one I would base it around this style.

makes a good smiley face on the shovel.. and yes I hve had a few cans.
This guy in melbourne does them, though he wants $175 plus shipping of $18.
Pretty expensive. I am sure you could do it cheaper. There is a picture below, scroll down past the toymotors to see it.

G'day,
I have a holder on my defender. I am in Langwarrin and happy for you to have a look at it if need be. PM me for next week, off to Bush for the next couple of days.
I made one for the defender that bolts onto the Kaymar rear wheel carrier. It carries a shovel, an axe and a pick.
Theres a cradle at the bottom for the axe head and it must go in on an angle, then sit upright, that way it can't jump out of place. The shovel slides in in front of the axe, the pick/mattock handle slots in behind the shovel and beside the axe. There's a cradle / recess at the bottom with a bolt welded on where the mattock head goes and then a large washer & wingnut hold that into place.
Nothing's fallen off or become dislodged even with rough off road driving.
If I could post some pics, I'd do it. But email me and I can email you photos. My prototype cost about $30-$40 to make, and that included $20 for zinc plating. I was thinking of making a few improved ones and selling them for around $100 on ebay, but haven't found the motivation to yet.
Heres one I made...

mns488,
do you have any closeups of the arrangement, ii would like to see how you grab hold of the shovel?? I want to do something like that as well with a light. Am i right that that it a steel wheel and wouldn't work for alloy wheels because the nuts are countersunK??
