    Land Rover Hybrids

    Hi there

I wasnt to sure where to post this but its more a wanted add but here goes, I have always been intersted in the Land Rover SWB Hybrids.

Does anyone know any one whom has already tackled one of these projects or know of any started projects whom may wish to part with.

    Thanks in advance

Depends on your definition of a hybrid. A hybrid can be as simple as a vehicle using series 2 and 3 parts, to having a custom coil sprung chassis, rangie underpinnings, rangie drivetrain, defender body panels, or series body onto a unimog.

You might want to get your hands a a DVD called "A 4x4 is Born".

It's done by a UK guy who builds up at 100" chassis from an old RR and a defender. Lots of good info on all aspects of building, but he does have a pretty unlimited budget so not reality for most people.

If you are into BitTorrents there is apparently some way to download it, but I don't know much about that. Someone else will be able to advise.

G'day All, One of the best critters I have ever seen is the Lightweight of Antony J from Victoria, it is a hot rod in my opinion looks like a Lightweight but has a TDI diesel ? transmission (but I'm certain it's not a Series3 type) coils springs 4 wheel disc brakes power steer, and you can imagine how it goes, another one was the chap from the Sth Oz club he had a 100" truck colour Blue whopping big V8 with everything that opened and shut, it would climb walls but I just cannot remember his name, he had something to do with running the Blinman event nice chap as well, anyway Wayne you ought to know him and A.J as well cheers Dennis

I did think a two door rangy with a defender ute cab would be easy enough and pretty reasonably priced. However, tdi prices have dropped a lot - 1/2 the price they were 4 years ago. So to avoid all insurance/road worthy issues now I think just go with a stock defender and build it up from there. IMHO It's cheaper to start from a good priced, well looked after unit.
