After ten years of legal wrangling about other things, I tend to disagree somewhat with JB: Take a legal representative. Say nothing to the other side. Don't agree to anything at that meeting. Unless it's signed and on paper it never existed. From now on do not approach the other side in any manner unless it is recorded in some manner ( Invest in a digital voice recorder like this:

    http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView...eMax=&SUBCATID=

Keep every receipt no matter how small, carry a mobile phone that has a decent camera function. Use an answering machine instead of picking up the phone - messages can be kept that way. 'For oldtimes sake' dosen't exist anymore. Start making notes of what happened 18mths ago and anything else that happened with the other side since then.

This may sound harsh, but you will feel better in negotiation when the 'funny business' can be minimised.

And last but not least - Do not get angry - the other side will try to push your buttons.

Well at least for you, all your money and house at the time of separation is back on the table if you can proove it so theres a glimmer of hope.

Dont forget that now you also have child support to think about and I would try to make a deal outside of CSA and fix it for the child support life at a manageable amount that is not based on your wages.

Then you can go and get a $100,000 job and she cant touch you without going to court.

If you pay good money for a Lawyer you normaly get a good one but this is expensive and if she is going to waste your money by stuffing around like mine did it can endup costing you your whole settlement like it did me.

Get used to getting reemed as it wont stop until the kids are 18.

Been paying 190 a week through a private settlement based on centrelink ratios ever since she did the runner. Then she got mad cause they cut her payments because of my high contribution level.
    Now that was funny.

At 2 6 and 8 old son my kids turning18 is a bloody long way off.

Declare yourself bankrupt grow a beard and you can come live next door to my shack in the woods.
On a more serious note could not agree more with the digital recorder. Record everything and keep it well organised. Always be helpful as long as it doesnt cost you. If you are agreeable but firm it will make you look a lot better if it gets dragged through court. Get everything including the arrangements for the kids in writting. Time for fond memories has long gone its time now to CYA.

Best offer ive had all year Mick, wheres this shack LOL
Never thought of all this stuff, guess thats why we get the shaft in these cases. Had no idea there were so many angles to something which to all intensive purposes is over and done.
Much research required, after all the info one thing is for sure, this meeting she wants is about to be delayed by a week or two while I arm myself for combat.

Due to the advice gratefully recieved from all here I fully intend to armour plate my butt.

Its hard to offer a lot of advice without knowing what your ex is like and how amicable things are. The reason I mentioned avoiding solicitors etc is that sometimes you just have to accept that things are done with and when you still have kids in joint care then the main focus has to be that they have to come out of it ok. Kids sense when there is tension even though they dont fully understand what it is all about and no matter how young they are they still pick up on things. If there is major battles with solicitors either way then it can place the kids in a bit of a weird situation and they dont know where their loyalties should lie and this can affect their behaviour and attention at school. I cant offer a great solution but try to work things out so that they can see that mum and dad arent enemies, it will help them in the long run. And whatever you do never get angry, it will only work against you. Hope that helps.

Make sure what she has already taken is fairly valued and part of the settlement. May save your super. If not sell the house and everything else and take half.
