I've known a few pig dogs that were fantastic animals... and have a couple american pitbulls living beside me which are just as playful as the next

I used to do deliverys to a place in the city which had a pit bull guard dog who during the day was locked up in a brick box basically with just a door made from 1/2" thick steel.

The dog would all day bash it's head into the door over and over again, I thought it was a bit harsh as where I was I was able to see down into his pen but when I asked if anyone had approached the owners over being cruel to the dog I was told that they had an electrified mesh fence which the dog bit it's way through just to get at a cat.

Took them ages to get it back and were under threat that if it got out again it would be put down.

I think it would have been better off dead.

Im not a fan either of these type of dogs but with all dogs there are good and bad ones, just with them there are more bad than good.

I have 6 pig dogs which are professional trained and they are great around any one ,when they get commanded in the right sequence yes they do click into hunt mode ,and believe me they will take down any size pig,

it just comes down to how they are treated and trained i love my dogs and if any body tried to put them down they would have to get through me first[which i doubt they will]

BRICK which was one of my dogs, got bitten by a black bellied brown 9 times but he still killed the snake and bought it up to the house ,unfortanately he died shortly after ,,yes it does seem stupid idea but where he found the snake was in the work shop ,so he was protecting me /wife/daughter ,which my daughter place in the hay [workshop]all the time

I don't see a problem. Just another "bullie", havin' some fun.

Never had any other kind of dog, but a bullie cross. They are great dogs, stupid, but loyal and loving.

Never will like the American Pit Bull. A deliberately bred, modern age fighting dog.
An animal specifically bred for illegal blood sport. Bah, humbug to them, that bred, and breed them.

Lots of people, not too many years, ago lost pets to that dog fight mob.
Where the hell did I put my Napalm pack. I'll fix em.

    Shorty.

This thread reminds me - coming home from town yesterday I saw someone has run over an echidna. That is someone who is up for a new tyre(s), together with anyone who runs over the remains. It is virtually impossible to get all the spines out - and they are hollow.

the mentality of any dog depends on the way it is brought up, sure some breeds are bred killers, which is what pitbulls are for, but like people dogs are affected drastically by the environment they are brought up in. Take Ivon Millat, he was brought up by in a sadistic gun toting family who used to play cowboys and indians in the back yard with real guns, what did he grow up to become? A serial killer. I have a Doberman X and she is placid as, and Dobermans are the dogs who are said to never loose a fight, Cassie walks away unless she needs to and Marcos crawls all over her never once has she growled at him, if he hurts her she yelps and moves. Thats not a Staffy unless its a cross i've owned purebred Staffs for years and agree with ACE its how there brught up all breeds have traits and while i would not own a pitbull i have met a couple and have not wanted to eat me.
Staffs love humans and would live on the lounge all day if they could but if a dog has a serious go at one then you have to be careful as they are very impervious to pain and have a very determined attitued. I work for Aust post and have contact with the local Ranger every week and Staffs are often stolen for dog fights because they are so easily approachable. Out of interest the most two dangerous dogs on the postie list for bites are heelers and german shepards.
