Cheap degreaser and a hose works well![]()
Hey Yaaaaalll
How have the learned here cleaned sooty black engine oil drips off concrete driveways in the past. We will be moving out of the rental in a while and the disco has an incontinence problem. Any suggestions that stop me testing hundreds of different cleaners will be greatly appreciated.
cheers
Mick

try this -
when the concrete is dry (it's pouring rain here atm), and after mopping up the excess oil, place some dry cement powder on the stain... sweep the cement off off after a few hours or a day or so, and you'll find the worst of it gone... do it again if necessary
wet it down and put sugar soap on it wait till it soaks in and power clean it off. Sugar soap is as caustic as hell so be careful getting it on you or particularly in your eyes. I dont know if you can buy it down south any more but I use it when all else fails. mind you it is not very climate friendly so you may want to look at other alternatives first.

I use kero and a brush, the kero seems to lift the embedded stuff out, then finish of with some degreaser.
john
for the serious stuff
potasium chloride as a paste let it sit for 30 mins hose off well then hit with simple green and a gurney sucking from a bucket of nearly boiling water.
Dont try it on pebble crete or those coloured cement type driveways.

If you think you're in front on the deal, pay it forwards.
How about buying a paint roller, long handle and a tray. Each oilchange treat the drive to a new paintjob, you wont see the drips anymore

buy hydro-chloric acid [Bunnings] will make your concrete look like new ,don't need much ,use a tin jar with a paint brush paint a little on then wash it off, just becarefull you don'y burn yourself, all these degreaser you buy dont work,i have been in the concrete buisness for 12 yrs and its the only stuff that cleans concrete up

I use kitty litter, it is very absorbant and you are not handling chemicals. Just spread it on and walk on it a few times then sweep it up.

I have found that the cheap de-greaser from supercheap and a pressure washer does the trick.
But backing up the acid idea I cleaned cement from a brick paved drive way with acid/water solution.
I only added a small amount of water poured it on the pavers and brushed it with a stiff brush. Then hosed it off.
BUT MAKE SURE you have a hose handy as that acid stuff doesn't half sting !!
