    Land Rover Wave

The Land Rover wave: An honour bestowed upon those drivers with the superior intelligence, taste, class, and discomfort tolerance to own the ultimate vehicle - the Land Rover. Generally consists of vigorous side-to-side motion of one or both hands, but may be modified to suit circumstances and locally accepted etiquette. Examples of commonly accepted modifications:
Roof off / rolled up: One handed wave above windscreen or outside body tub (Series owners only)
Roof off during storm: Shiver and nod, hands may remain frozen to steering wheel (Series owners only)
Rural locations: Raise fingers from steering wheel, nod
In keeping with this cardinal rule of Land Rovering, categories have been established to account for each part of the equation:
    These categories are:
Land Rover Hierarchy: Based on the vehicle itself. Takes into account the nostalgia factor, the discomfort tolerance quotient, and the amount of owner dedication required to maintain the vehicle.
Sub-categories: Based on what you do with your Land Rover.

    General Rules:
    1. All Land Rover Drivers are responsible for upholding the tradition of the Wave. Upon contact with a higher scoring Land Rover, a Land Rover driver is required to initiate the Wave, and continue the Wave until:
    a. The Wave is returned
    b. The Wave is blatantly disregarded
    c. The higher scoring vehicle has passed by and is out of sight
    2. All Land Rover Drivers must return the Wave, unless the initiating vehicle is clearly has a negative (below 0) score.

    3. All Land Rover Drivers are encouraged, but not required, to return the Wave to negative balance vehicles, and take any opportunity presented to guide and mentor them about their responsibilities to their Land Rovers in the hopes that they can correct the error of their ways.

    The Land Rover Wave Hierarchy:

    Category A Series 1 30
    Category B Series IIA 27
    Category C Series III 25
    Category D 90s 20
    Category E 110/130s 16
Category F Range Rovers (modified) 15
    Category G Discoveries (modified) 10
    Category H Range Rover / Discovery /
    Freelander (unmodified) 5
    Category I All other 4WD vehicles 0
Category J All other vehicles 0
    Category X Lightweight / FC / LRSVs 29

    Sub-Categories:

SC 1: Roof off; vehicle, driver, and all occupants covered with mud: +30
SC 2: Roof partially off; vehicle and some occupants covered with Mud: +20
SC 3: Hard Top & vehicle covered with mud: +10
SC 4: Roof off during snow, sleet, hail, or heavy rain: +5
    SC 5: Somewhat dirty: 0
SC 6: Obviously recently washed, but immediately re-muddied a little: -10
SC 7: Clean, dry, unscratched, shiny: -20

Mate, sorry to tell you ISUZU isn't a devision of Land Rover. 2.25D series vehicles however.

Ok about the sub catagories how would one define a restored but pristine looking vehicle?

    Land Rover wave

...not as good as a battered S1 covered in mud, with no roof and the occupants also covered in mud!

    it's a Land Rover. Not a Rolls.

but a stock Freelander scores 5

I wouldn't bother waving to a Freelander (unless it was severely modified & dirty).

I think the scoring system needs to be reviewed.

Got the wave today from a fella in a P38a, and it wasn't Ron.

Nearly ran off the road I was so surprised.

    Cheers
    Simon
