Wa is at least 400-500 litres, you are allowed no more than 2 x 44 gallon drums at any one time for a particular product (most of these are 220litre each). Above this you must have a DG permit and bunding to contain any spills that meets AS. You must also have appropriate fire and chemical response equipment. Private residences or small businesses if they do not have the resources must get FESA to conduct an inspection and risk assessment for large quantities. Some of the classified goods such as methanol, etc are limited to about 200litres without a permit, some even less, eg hydrochloric acid 20 litre.

Most of us probably have well over 20 litres of flammable liquids in the shed, when you consider oils, turps, thinners, fuel for lawnmower/chainsaw etc.

Well that's more like it! 200 litres is more manageable for everyone; thanks for the response,
    cheers Chazza

PS found this for West Australians

Can store 5000litres of biodiesel without a permit and 500kg of caustic soda and methanol.

Just remember the 5000 litres of diesel is in an approved tank not 44s or jerry cans.

wihtout getting too into it... the 3 from the housee m rule is fine for 205l drums, your not supposed to have more than 500l of "combustable liquid" on a normal sized block... this is the SUM total, you also have to comply with the basic Dangerous goods rulings for storage (ie less than a 250l capacity container isnt dangerous)

The bit that raises eyebrows for the Fire fighters is the fact that you have exposed ethanol and a heater in the one place at the same time along with plenty of combustable liquid. Having seen some of the setups that are getting around out there I whole heartedly agree with the IDEA but not the implementation.

IMHO if they inspected and you could prove that your gear stands up to the relevent regulatory statutes for mixing, handling and storing the relevant quantities of materials they should give you the OK and be done, if you dont fines and confiscation.
