The bloke from Land Rover Owner International Magazine was blown away by it, he loved it.

Land Rover arent out to sell a crap load of them like toyota do with the rav 4, they are targeting the luxury market and at the moment doing a bloody good job of manopolising it, the D3 is now classed in the luxury class, team that up with the RRS and the Vogue and they cover all bases, the Freelander was moved up a notch to compete with the X3, X5 and the Merc equivalent, it was being eaten alive in the category it was in previously, being compared to the Rav, Xtrail etc when it started some 10k more was never going to work, but they have done a Hyundai, compete with the level above, knock some 10k plus of their prices and give the purchaser all the fruit, it will do well in the market its aimed at. I initially thought this too, but comparing the vehicle with its main rival the BMW X3, the X3 starts at early 70's plus extra's.
U do get a fair amount of kit standard on the base model SE's.
With BMW u have to pay for 6 cd changer, have to pay for full size spare wheel, stereo is not compatible to MP3's, pay for electric seats, etc etc..
So for instance if u compare the HSE TD4 to the BMW X3 3.0d
Price for each..57990 compared to 72900 plus on roads etc.
Thats nearly a 15 thousand dollar saving to start.
Then u get the X3 up to spec with the FL2 & the BMW price jumps to nearly 80k..Thats a lot of money for car lifted with no offroad credentials.
I am not bagging the BMW its a good vehicle for those who want it, but just comparing prices as it is quite astonishing.

A lot of new arrivals a expected here in about 18months, Mercedes, VW, Audi etc.
So good on LR for making a quite exceptional vehicle & releasing it at a very good time for an realistic price.
    Cheers
Sounds like a pretty impressive but of kit.... but I think you'd find most BMW buyers would factor in the depreciation when looking at the cost...

Lets face it even though we all love our landies... when it comes to the D word.... they are pretty sad..

I hope the Freelander sells really well.... but considering the previous freeelander reputation... I think they may struggle at that price point too...

Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most

2015 TDV6 D4.... the latest project... Llams, Traxide, Icom 455, Tuffant Kimberleys and Mofos.... so far.
2012 SDV6 SE D4 with some stuff... gone...
    2003 D2a TD5...gone...
    2000 D2 V8...gone...

Landrover might consider that the Freelander is competing with BMW and price accordingly but most people will consider it is competing against the RAVs, CRVs etc and as such will not be considered good value. People buy BMW for the name not necessarily because of what the car can or cannot do - as such they will pay more.

I do not think this freelander will sell well at all at this paypoint.

The new car is nothing short of amazing... The new TD4 lump just pulls & pulls & pulls... I really like them.

IIRC, the LROI guy came to Eastnor & went around in one of the demo cars, Nelly (NLE).
