    I am a quitter

I've come to realise there is just no such thing as a good time to quit. I smoke whether under extreme pressure at work thru to lazy days on holiday, it just doesn't matter what I'm doing, I'm a smoker. It's never going to get easier, just harder.
    Well not today.
    I'm on the patches.
    They're not working.
It's really not the same as a smoke, but it does take the edge off a little.
Everybody at work is now having a bad day.

    Crump just do it.

My Grandad, was a roll your own smoker from a young age, he died in 1945 (60 years old) from Lip, Mouth and Throat Cancer, they cut away his whole bottom jaw and the whole front half of his throat down to his chest bone, they fitted him with a wire brace to hold the weight of his head up and a drip tray to catch the saliva and fluids, my Grandmother fainted when she seen him. Thankfully he only survived 4 days in this horrific condition. My Dad died in 2003 from Emphysemia after smoking for 70 years, he actually coughed so hard that he had a heart attack, he had got to the stage of not being able to walk 5 metres, even with the oxygen machine.
I smoked a pack a day for 25 years starting at age 25, I gave up 10 years ago and I still get cravings for a smoke, after doing some work I will instinctively reach for my ciggies in my top overalls pocket and then I get goosebumps and the hair on the back of my neck stands up. How addictive is this $h!t if it can still grab at me after 10 years of not smoking. For your self and your family's sake give it away NOW, Regards Frank.

My front right trouser pocket is empty and I keep racking my brain as to what I've forgotten, I've now stuffed it full of gums etc.
I get up from my desk and walk outside and then can't remember what I was going to do. The habit is just as hard to break as the addiction.
    It hasn't been 1 day!!!!

I gave up on the 23rd march this year, use the patches they take away the crankyness, it also seems that the world is conspiring against you and you find yourself with more troubles in your life than you have ever had before. Either that or you are just a little more aware of things that may **** you off now.

It is worth it and my bank balance loves it but the waist line doesnt, just had to go on a diet to loose 5kg, however I can recoment the Tony Ferguson diet to get rid of those nasty excess kilos, lost 5kg in 1 1/2 weeks

Its amazing how the nagging has slowed down slightly too

To all you blokes that are quitting

    GOOD ON YA

    As a bit of motivation.

Have you ever looked at junkies and thought "why do they do that s**t, why dont they just give it up". Well you are going through the same scenario, so give that a bit of thought before you think of having a ciggy.

You are basically having a fight with your brain because it just needs its fix and then it will leave you alone.
If you give in to it then it always has that against you, it knows your weakness.

One tip though, a lot of people chew gum or have lollies etc which are sweet tastes, totally unlike the strong taste of smoke.
Try things like pepparoni sticks or the packets of crystallised ginger or anything strong tasting, so then at least your taste buds are getting what they are used to.

Their are many ways that people have used to quit but its up to the individual to look at what is causing their addiction and work out a strategy for it.

Best of Luck, sure there is lots of people on this forum backing you in.

I assure you, as one giving up at the moment, your comments are very welcome and your advice invaluble and thank you for the support.

One thing I will say from last time I gave up, Mints are not good for everytime you want something in your mouth, they give you the runs.....Bad.

I drink a lot of water as it helps having something taking that taste out of my mouth but doesnt put weight on and it also gets rid of the hunger that seems to come from giving up.

In saying that, im using patches and highly recomend that as I have had no withdrawals like when you go cold turkey.

    Good luck everyone.
