I personally am not touched by the ad, but then again I am fairly ad-resistant and can't drive anything but a series/defender .

That said, I believe that they're trying to go a bit higher up in the market than compete with the multitude of jap softroaders, and I guess then that the targeted demographic would be a bit more upmarket. As the ad appears to be.

I hope it works well - and sells many; it's what Land Rover need (buyers could later be convinced to upgrade ).

BTW, you all mustn't have been awake when I noticed the numberplates!

Haven't seen the adds but anything after the 300tdi doesn't interest me. My computer is in the study, my car is on the drive. Call me a Luddite if you will.

we have three of the new freeloaders on our barracks at the moment, and i spoke to two of the owners and they love 'em!

they were designed to be a capable off roader with handling similar to that of a normal car. they aren't a serious off roader, but they are good.

i think they are ok but i would never buy one!

The ad is crap, but for $50,000 the new Hippo is good value, relative to a BMW X3 or any of the other little Euro softies...

A six speed wih terrain response would go lots of places.

    Luddite!

I work in the field of electronics, professionally, and I take every opportunity to improve a product or it's specifications by adding a healthy dose of electronics.
In fact, it is quite likely that some of the new generation of Defence vehicles will not go to a 'mechanic' for engine problems, but rather to the 'electronic' shop for tune and diagnostics, then to the 'mechs' to do the monkey work of replacing the broken bit.
Like most things, electronic modules are rushed into production by manufactures without adequate testing or even understanding the technology.

    So endeth the sermon

Re: The Ad. What do you expect from the company who thought it was a good idea for Maria Sharapova to be the public face of Land Rover in Europe?!

I worked in electronics for 37 years and I've moved from being into the new stuff to being a Luddite, too.

I can barely use a mobile phone, usually stuff up recording TV programmmes, etc.
