Thats why I get the ****s when I read something like that, because in my case I bought my vehicle that was $100k+ that it was not perhaps "worthy" because of exactly that being an expensive vehicle with perhaps a hefty repair bill, or bells and whistles etc. To the likes of me and no doubt other similiar owners, that is great, but that is not the reason for buying the vehicle. The main reason was to get off road and dirty and challenge and test the vehicle and enjoy oneself like anyone else no matter the age, type or "series" of vehicle. Its almost like a yota/pootrol scenario within the realms of the green oval and that is place it shouldnt happen.It doesnt matter that it will go anywhere any other LR vehicle bar that paths I choose not to..........just in case of an expensive repair bill :eek: and that it still requires some mods ie rear bar, bull bar and sliders atm.
So just because I drive a later model LR product, doesnt mean that a) I am no more or no less a real Landy person or b) that because my particular model in yours ( in this case) or anybodies elses eyes doesnt stack up to your definition of character, it should be remembered that they are all LR and wear the Green Oval,

P.S. I still get people who say I am nuts for doing what I do in my D3, but I wear my scratches and there are a few, my currently damaged rear bumper bar and dents in the underbody with pride. In my eyes that black beast has ****loads of character :twisted:
A Land Rover person is someone who stopped going to the overlander forum cause they kept getting crap for buying a Land Rover.
And they came to AULRO to get away from the people who want to make you feel bad for buying a car different from them. But lately this forum is doing the same, just being more specific.
I would have loved to buy a Defender as it is a classic but I needed a car that suited both my needs and my wifes. The Disco does that and then some.
I don't fit the mould of a Land Rover owner: I can't pull my engine to bits like the rest of you and don't understand half of what you say. But I still feel like a Land Rover owner and I don't much care if anyone thinks otherwise. and one day I will take a spanner to something under the bonnet cause the people on here inspire me to do so.
I think a Land Rover owner, is someone who enjoys driving it, cryies when it brokes down, gets it fixed, and then drives it, loves it and doesn't think of selling it. As soon as you start thinking of Toymotor's or Bitsu****ties than you stop being a Land Rover Owner.

Funny when you talk about repairing your LR because you either break it or it's just worn out they bang on about reliability. I would like to see a Toyota or any 4WD for that matter after 20 years of hard off-road abuse and poor matenance keep going and in retrospect they're usualy worse off because they do keep going and going til they stop, permenantly :eek: :eek: :eek:

Stupidity.
Deosnt mean we dont enjoy screwing around! I feel i could not do any of the things i do in a Freelander in any other 'softroader'. I cant follow a defender, half the time i dont want to. I will still put a Prado to shame, and love doing it!
Being a Land Rover Person means loving the car AND its bretheren. Regardless of how much of your time and petty $$$ it consumes! As i said, to a non 'Land Rover person', stupidity!
I occasionally say between Gfs, "Why have a GF when you have a Land Rover? , Love it and it will Love you. Disrepect it, and it will break, to spite you. Then you have to spend a huuge amount of time and money alone with the car working things out. Once you and the car have come to an understanding, then your back up and running for a few weeks...."

I am contemplating joining the "clan" in purchasing a new D3 TDV6 SE. (My first pommy machine).
However, my hesitance is from experience in a "previous life" in the 60's & 70's when if you wanted something quick to drive, with "character" you owned five or six Alfa Romeos in succession!!
Oh,... to have my time over and have stuck to the old Holden ute the old man suggested! I could not even contemplate how much cash was required to keep those "lovely Italian masterpieces" (read good handling unreliable pieces of crap) going.
I guess I'm at that stage of life I would like the reliability (which have been terrific) of the Pajeros I've had, with the extra features and character of the new D3.
Will I achieve this if I take the plunge?
