    Need an honest opinion.

    Hi folks.
I have a 1971 LWB Series II (or IIA?) Landrover that I need to get rid of. I've had the vehicle for approx thirty odd years, the majority of this time sitting in the back yard. I have the option of giving it to a good home, stripping it down for the spares trade, or trying to sell it as is. The head was removed (and is still off) and reconditioned many years ago. The carby has been reconditioned, as has the radiator. The body is straight (few dents of my doing), fair amount of rust in passenger door (underneath window). The reason I took the head off was vehicle blew smoke- somebody suggested valves may be the problem, but since head never went back on, I never did find out.
No, I'm not inclined in any way to try to do it myself. No expertise, no space, no anger management.
What I require is an honest opinion of what these vehicles, in a reasonably crappy condition, are worth today, to an enthusiast.
    I'm situated in Adelaide.

    Thanks in anticipation.

Look at eBay and see what some of the crap is going for. It could be worth a couple of hundred.

If I was nearby, I'd take it away for free.

i don't profess to know the value of you're land rover, but i am sure some one here will help you.
having said that, i wouldn't like to see it wrecked, but others more experienced than i could determine it's fate.
if you have a look at what the markets section of our forum you may find similar things for sale, or ring the wreckers.
i would hope that more than one of our members here can help you out with an honest appraisal and someone here will revive your land rover.
in all probability it may well be worth more as parts, but that doesn't get rid of all of it and sometimes takes forever to move anything, let alone the time to separate the parts for sale.
what a shame it's not in qld close to us, we'd love to see it.

Very difficult to say what it is worth without seeing it - and then it is very dependent on a buyer looking for it. But unless it is something special, with the engine in bits for that length of time, and in "reasonably crappy condition" the maximum would be a few hundred, and that would depend on the bulkhead and chassis being essentially rust free.

On the other hand, Series 2As (which is what it is apparently) are in much shorter supply than Series 3s, so that would enhance its value - but they are not in sufficiently short supply to raise the price that much. And it is a bit far away for me I'm afraid.

Go back about 6 months and look for a thread titled "Landys in a Paddock".

Two were acquired (one ex Army) for the effort required, one of which was only a few months out of rego. And yet another still waits for a new home.

Sadly, the old fellas aren't worth a zac.

A mate has been collecting early Rangies and has been paying about $500 ea for the last six he acquired.

I have just been through the same process in Adelaide with an early rangie, if its still relatively complete but in crap nick and you can get it on a car trailer you might get $150 - $200 for it at the scrap metal places.

Personally if you can find someone local who is interested in a project or rebuild simply because they love that particular type of car and you can tell by the look in there eye they can see potential in it I would be more than happy if they took it away and I didn't have to help them move it.

There's a few Adelaide guys about. I have visted two landie wreckers today and neither of them would probably even take it off you for nothing. Its criminal.

No idea on it's value. If was within a days travel of me I would have happily taken it has a project car.

Would it be any good as a farm hack?

Send me some photos if you've got any. I'm up in the Adelaide Hills so might be interested. I'll PM you an email address.
