I've had a computer monitor catch fire when I turned it on. I do know of at least one fire started by a dishwasher locally as well as a couple from dryers.

Maybe a bit more aware and closer to the info being in the fire services.

Thats why we never had a dishwasher. My parents bought one when they were the latest new thing around. It caught fire and gutted the kitchen.

I worked for Simpson Appliances for 12 years.
Its quite common (or was) for rats and mice to chew through the wiring of any electrical appliance. Maybe they now make them less palatable- I really dont know. I saw a stove with all its wire stripped bare. The little buggers then move around and short circuit the works. Good reason why circuit breakers are popular
