    Freelander 2

Ok, call me crazy, but I went and test drove one today. Was thinking I am doing too much freeway and not enough dirt for the defender, so looked at changing over.

Like the finish, outside looks cool...kind of rangie-ish, inside is nice, plenty of space, love the leather seats etc. Awesome to drive, heaps of go and soooooo quiet, even at 120kph.

Have been trying to figure out its offroad credibility, and I suspect it would go ok, certainly well enough to get me to the good camping spots, and I'll take a trailbike over the tough stuff. Found this intersting vid on terrain response:

Anyway, what killed it for me was the price. At around $55k for the diesel on road I just don't think it is good value, so will be renewing the lease on the defender for another 2 years i think - unless anyone wants to make a ridiculously high offer for it.

Yep, the Freelander is excellent off-road.

Good vid... Most of it was filmed at Eastnor.

Yeah fair point Big Jon. What I really meant is that it is not good value for me. With the type of lease I'm on, if it was 45k I would end up infront by trading-in, but at 55k I won't. Also I'm kind of attached to the 90 now. I guess if you are comparing it to an X3 and possibly the yet-to-be released VW Tiguan it's probably a reasonable price.
