It was 1964. Just in case anyone cares, it was a 33 1/3, not 45 or 78 rpm and no, I didn't have to play it on an Edison cylinder phonograph.
I used to play it on a Garrard turntable connected to a valve radio which was rewired so that some of the valves that had been part of the receiver became part of the amplifier. Both were attractively housed in cardboard boxes.
I can't remember my first CD.

Same era for me but 45s 1964, first album was fresh Cream by Cream 1968/69 i still have a Technics turntable, unfortunately my old Technics died.
