    looking for County Diesel

    Hello,

What do think my chances are of finding a County Diesel in good condition. I am looking for a 4 speed with no air-con, been looking for a while now and have found nothing but V8 petrols. I live on the Gold Coast but am willing to travel for the right truck. Any help would be very much appreciated.

You can't have mine! They seem to be very scarce, and as a general rule, the people who have good ones seem to hang on to them.

When I sold mine here in brisbane 4 weeks ago, I had enquiries from Victoria, Port Hedland and Tasmania. In the end, the buyer flew up from central NSW to buy and drive home.

I flew to Sydney and drove back to Brisbane.

    That was just for a V8 Disco1

The Isuzus certainly seem scarce though. I have only ever seen the one in person for certain and it wasn't for sale!

    G'day All4Fun

If you can't get a Diesel County you might have to go for a V8 Petrol and put it on Duel Fuel, as the price difference makes it viable, the V8 goes onto gas without major engine mods, it's just connect up and adjust timing, as the engine already has the hardened valve seats and there are thousands of these Rover, Landrover, Range Rover motors running successfully on gas. Duel Fuel in Caboolture will give you an idea of the costs involved.

    cheers

    can't have mine either

actually not sure if you are mixing your models up a bit or not... so in summary,

110 was the model available in Oz that replaced the Series 3 and preceeded the defender.

'County' is a spec level for land rover and was the only spec level in Oz for 110's from 1985 - 1989. These vehicles had factory aircon, were powered by an Isuzu motor and the earlier variants had series doors and the 4 speed (with some gearbox overlaps)... always were and getting more rare, especially in great nick due to the price new at the time of release (circa $50k in the mid 80's is nothing to be sneezed at - an average house in the big cities was under triple that price!)

If you mean 'functional airvents' then there have been numerous conversions done by owners, a few of which are documented on this site (run a search).

You can find TDI 200 or 300 defenders without aircon as it was an option post 1989.... but none in 'county' trim spec... 5 speed is also standard for these models.

    make sense? I hope so...

I don't think you are quite accurate - my 1986 County was sold without aircon and with a four speed box (and I do know its history). And when I bought it I test drove a couple of other four speeds with no aircon, and at least one five speed with no aircon (Mind you, that was fourteen years ago).

And I agree the County trim level was the only one sold here as the five door wagon - but the cab/chassis, 120", ute (very rare), and hardtop, were, as far as I am aware, never sold with County trim, so it is not really accurate to say the County trim level was the only one here - that only applies to the wagon. And certainly aircon ones are a lot more common than ones without, although either are pretty scarce with the Isuzu. V8s are much more common, for sale at least.

    happy to be corrected...

you are right, I was only thinking 110 wagons... I've never personally seen a factory non-aircon though of that vintage, interesting!

but then again, I've not seen too many 110's with the 4BD1 in the flesh in total...

1986 was roughly the change over year for 110s before this they had LT95(4 speed) and after LT85 (5 speed). The were other little changes as well such as there galvanising being painted over on later models.

That said i have seen late 85 early 86 countys with bits from both specs.

The non aircon trim level is very similar to that in the stage 1's. Good luck in the search, I am looking for an isuzu 110 for my dad at the moment and you have to be quick.
    84' 120" ute - 3.9 isuzu.

For the record, I have a 1987 110 County with 3.9D (also not for sale )
It has an LT85 (5-speed), aircon, no door cappings, galvanised AND painted cappings on the tub, and originally had the "soft" cubby box lid (was tatty so I swapped it for the earlier version).

A mate in the Brisbane club has a 6/86 110 with identical spec., except that it had door cappings when factory.

Dave S on here has owned 3 isuzu diesel 110s (and a 120) - so he can give the specs on those if he is around.

I have seen a 1984 model 110 with 4BD1 (and aircon), so they were made earlier than 1985.

JDNSWs is the first 110 county I have seen with vents.
