I'm looking at taking the family to Sydney for a few days in a couple of weeks.
Can anyone recommend any place (in or very close to the city) where I can get reasonable accom for 2 adults, 2 kids & baby plus 1 adult & 1 kid extra (in-laws).
One of the biggest issues is parking. I need to be able to park a Defender and a Range Rover and most places seem to offer low level undercover parking.
Thanks in advance, Michael2
Check the Mercure near the airport. We use it regularly. It has open air parking. No problems with roof height.
Don't pay the rack rate.

For parking, some hotels have open air public carparks in addition to their underground secure parking (Clarion at Darling Harbour for example.)
I can help you out with street parking on the fringe of the CBD if you get really stuck.
Depends what you want to do in Sydney. I have found that for my purposes, stay well out of town and use public transport. I have stayed at Penrith Valley Inn several times (and would go back there) and also at Katoomba at City Centre Motel. But with that number the costs of public transport could get high enough to make up for the lower costs accommodation further out.

If you don't mind being on the North Shore I can recommend Cremorne Point Manor. Parking is on the street and not too bad if you get there before everyone comes home, 10 minute ferry ride and you are in the city.

I would recommend the Narrabeen Holiday Park on the northern beaches. About 45 minutes out of the city but public transport is at your front door. You can also take a short drive to Manly and take the ferry to the city.
The holiday park has numerous villas and cabins with different configurations. Parking is not an issue and the beach is across the road with Narrabeen lake next to the park.

Just thought I would point out that if you are not familiar with Sydney, getting around (particularly in the inner areas) by car is much more difficult than in Melbourne (and parking is often difficult and expensive), and you would be well advised to plan on using public transport, although it is not as well organised as is Melbourne's.
