On our recent trip I had the misfortune to ride in the front of a trayback and front+back of a troopy and herself in the back of the troopy. I was really surprised how rough as guts they both were ..

Herself was later quite happy plugging along in the rough in the Fender whilst throwing pitying glances towards the poor coots in the troopies ....

Dunno Ken. Can't help but think that with Toymota (70 Series), Santana, Jeep,... going towards simple, rugged machines and with LR heading off to the luxury market - even with the new Defender - some things don't look like they're in focus

you can't compare US to Japanese leaf suspensions.
The Yanks had it all over Toyota and Nissan on how to make the buggers articulate and ride.
The Oz based engineers for both Japanese manufacturers banged their heads against brick walls for years trying to get the engineers in Japan to listen until Japan discovered coils, and even then, the Patrol should be better than it is.

if i could never buy another landy, i'd go for a nicely restored CJ5 or J10 jeep before i went to toyota. wouldn't touch another renegade and i think the newer ones just haven't got the goods.

To much of a bumpy ride for me a Defender is as agricultural as I like as far as ride comfort
And as far as a D3 goes they are more than capable off road luxos
They wipe the floor with the new Boymota
and the new luxo J"Heep" likes to catch fire

The 82 Cherokee I had had a 6cyl and 5 spd and leaf sprung, around the town it would handle like a car and just as comfy and in the bush it was hard to beat, comfy, the torque from the 258 motor in low range was amazing, 265 footpds torque at 1500 rpm, the yanks do the leaf spring 4wd really well, the Dodge ram of the 80s is also a comfy scrub cruiser, bit rare hear though
