CDL or not How much weight was in both vehicles Ive been out on numerous occasions and have traveled further along the same terrain than Discos with CDL mines stock V8 no CDL 32" Muds
Even hill climbs have been easier than others that have CDL Go Figure ( Maybe its just the driver)

    I was shocked also........

we put it down to one car having 265/75/16 and one having 235/85/16

    Both drivers very capable....

We played on one sand hill for about 1.5hours trying Traction control and no TC then CDL then no CDL.... it was supprising the result.....

Result was my stock Defender was pathetic at making rooster tails in the sand, but the chipped D2 and the V8 rangie were the best at making roostertails...

dont forget that the one with the better shocks wont do so well at a low speed climb.....

Ive sneaked a perentine up a dune by dropping the rear shocks off and tying them out of harms way. we were getting close with the rubber at sand pressure but just not quite getting there.

as in still working as opposed to tubular decorations that hang between the axle housing and the chassis.

Hmmm..... now the shagged shockers are a PLUS????

What Clarkie said about the 2 D2's is all true, Duff's car had more grunt than mine, was running slightly smaller diameter tyres and one more thing, he was running about 16 psi and i was running 18 psi front and 20 psi rear.

My car was loaded to the hilt with a roof rack as well (there were 2 in my car, the others just had themselves to play with).

Before this trip I was **** scared of being constantly stuck in sand....... now I know different .

The heavier car may have got the tyres to bag better.
When I did Big Red in my Rocky, I had to drop to 10psi just to get the tyres to bag. It was to light for the tyres.
Another thing that was making it harder for me. Every time I stopped to drop air, someone else would have a go and put down a wider track width in the sand.
Gearing, rolling diameter, tyre profile and weight all make up variables. I would think diff locks are only needed if the ground is uneven. ie, the sand on say Big Red would offer the same grip to all wheels. In the same way a CDL would only help if one axle became unloaded by a significant amount.
The real question is, was the TC activating ? If not than all wheels may have been spinning at the same speed.

The ones with Locked CDL, was the TC still active ?
It's all about grip, and how you use it.
