Dave, I don't mind Whitworth sizes but it's amusing at time to read the tirades against Whitworth. If people read up on why Joseph made the nuts and bolt sizes, they'd realise that there was certainly a method behind it.

It's OK to come later and design new standards but he was the first to try to overcome the problem of every manufacturer using their own screw threads.
