    HELP: DSE IT Job Application

Well the job is a long shot and i have left it to the last minute to apply since it closes today

Has anyone worked for DSE or have any idea what the acronym "LSB" stands for in "LSB business information systems?"

Its used through out the position description, such as the following

Extensive experience and knowledge in managing the development and delivery of
support services required to efficiently resolve
    LSB business information systems issues,
track and implement required changes, and assist users in developing their system
    understanding and skills.

I love IT so many acronyms and they change regularly .... or failing that you can make up your own

    Hey Grump
ring the contact person, and give bodgy name and ask what it means in relation to the position.

    or if could be this

In the IT world, standardization is often viewed as evidence of a technology's maturation. Linux* is a case in point. This technology is certainly in full bloom, with a telling sign of the open-source OS's growth coming in the form of the Linux Standard Base (LS.
If you're unfamiliar with the LSB, this is your introduction to an exciting standard. Yes, the words "exciting" and "standard" just appeared in the same sentence. What's exciting about the LSB is its potential to help customers maintain a flexible and stable commercial environment for new applications running on Linux systems.
In addition to specifying the OS interfaces, the LSB defines how to provide shrink-wrapped applications that can run on any certified Linux OS at a standard level on a particular type of hardware. This means that Linux customers can start checking for a single label when they shop for software--just like they do when shopping for another widely popular desktop system. However, Linux customers can still use their favorite certified Linux distribution.

    or maybe

    Legal Studies in Business Program

    or LSB

maybe the first one, as thats mainly what came up on LSB business systems.

    Thanks John

I think i have found the answer... i dont know why i didnt do this earlier but i did a searched on the DSE website and found the following -

The Regional Data Net Project (RDN) is an initiative of the Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE). Land Stewardship and Biodiversity (LS are funding the project which aims to improve Geographic Information System (GIS) use and resources in regional Victoria, and increase the coverage and quality of Victoria's Catchment Condition Data.

Not that i have the faintest idea what this means ... we are making progress

see what happens in a moment of indecision.
    You forgot where to look.

Typical gov dept, full of acronyms that mean nothing.

hell thats a mouthful, does it mean they want an information spreader?

    HAHAhaha

    Yes of course!

And if i had read it as someone else that's what i would have thought also!

Isn't it funny that what you type makes perfect sense to you but how it can be read in so many different ways.

Mind you, Department of Sustainability and Environment is prob a little large for the title
