I had one of these critters, the only bird I know that could hang by one leg of a swing and crap upwards and sideways, mine drunk coffee, coke, but the noise got too much and it was pushing its luck with the cat so I got rid of it, hes still going well a mate has him

Well i'll be.... more trouble than a dog

Our Lorikeet is much the same in all aspect, eats similar things but likes the froth on my Cappuccino.

We take her on holidays in the caravan, in a smaller cage. The word "Yum" covers many things that she either likes or taste.
When we go out I tell her we won't be long and she says, "Okay, bye", and understands.

The word "Hop on" is both hop on and hop off. Looking at me is hop on, sitting on my shoulder and looking at her cage is the hop off version

Our bird also gets along well with my wife, but usually just talks about me, when she is with the wife.

I must say Lorikeets are really quite intelligent (about the standard of a 4 year old child), know what the want and do take up a lot of your time, but make fantastic pets. A laugh a minute with their antics.

Pat, my bird had no choice about being with us.
I think she was a reject and thrown out of the nest. She had no feathers just fluff. She is a bit undersized.
She had something wrong with her legs and couldn.t
stand up on her own, so she spent the first few months in the palm of our hand. Everyday she was given physio treatment. She would lay on her back and hold onto a finger so that her legs could be worked up and down one at a time. This worked because after
a few months she had enough strength in them so she could walk around. She hasn't looked back since, she is still only small but healthy and full of life.
Funny thing tho, to this day she still sleeps on her back
or on her side in a prepared, large tissue box on the floor of her cage. I guess this is her hollow tree limb.
It's a nice feeling when a little bird lands on your shoulder or wakes you up in the morning and says
" Hullo Mate ".
Took most of the hard edge of me, I can tell you.

No, I dont clip her wings.
In fact she wont go outdoors unless she is in her cage.
Her choice.
When she was about six months old her cage was out the back so she opened it and flew off.
She was gone about six hours then the cat we had at the time came in and got Betty to follow her outside beside the house. There was the bird down in the grass.
She must have gotten a big fright because she wont go near a door and I would not let her out now or put her at risk in any way.
Cripes, I got a fright too !
When we travel her cage sits on a padded platform in
the centre behind our two seats.
She gets excited when a semi trailer approaches from the opposite direction, she ducks her head and sings out " See you later, Mate ".

While I'm at it I thought I might put up a pic of the
hollow tree limb or nesting box ! This is where she sleeps.
This one is about 6 weeks old and will remain untill she
lays the next egg and will then be replaced by a new one.
As you can see she has done quite a bit of work on it,
getting it just right.
She usually lays 2 eggs about 5 days apart.
The day to day goings on with this bird is facinating.
