If you are not listed on the roll where you should be -- claim a section 42 vote - it is your right to vote -- stand up for your rights

I have no real idea why the rules were changed - but they were changed many months ago, and the changes have been advertised repeatedly ever since. I'm afraid that I have little sympathy for people who do not enrol or change their address on the roll until an election is called - obviously they do not put voting very high on the list of priorities.

It seems a bit of a stretch to make the changes favouring the government or the opposition, unless you expect those who are not very interested in voting to vote in one direction on average. Personally I doubt if the distribution of their votes would be any different from the population at large.

Do I care about the Tampa and the children overboard?

    Not at all.

Does it affect my thinking of the govt?

    Not at all.

Do I care about refugees and detention centres?

    Not at all.

Do I care if those in detention centres sew up their lips or go on hunger strikes?

Only in that they should have been deported long ago not kept in Oz in what some idiots have called "concentration camps" - an insult to those who lived through concentration camps.

Do I care about blacks coming in?

Yes. I can see future Australia having the same problems as the UK. Our various must govts think we are better than the rest of the world in respect to racial integration. We're not.

    Would I vote Green?

    Absolutely not.

When I was young and foolish, I voted Labor - then I realised that every time they got it, they were ruining the country. I've never liked working so that my money could be given to those who won't work. Then I voted Democrats to keep the bastards honest. However, the Democrats decided to go for female leaders and that stuffed the Party. I also hate the idea of the country being run by unions.

Now I realise my Lower House vote will be meaningless so I try to elect someone from other than a major party to the Upper House.

If one doesn't vote, then one can't complain about the govt. one gets.

Don't have a problem with GST per se, but can someone answer this..... if GST is the best thing for our tax system, why oh why do we have other taxes as well. There are still sales taxes, excises and income tax. If GST is so great why not increase the percentage and abolish all other taxes. Too simple isn't it.

Don't see the problem with most unions, after all big business has the Government to look after it, it's only fair to have a body which employees can look to to protect they're interests. Have been a proud unionist for many years, and most of the conditions enjoyed by a vast majority of the workforce are because of Union (read employee) involvement. And this includes white collar, blue collar and a lot of salaried staff.

I am sure you will find that the Aust Electoral Commission is completely apolitical. If you were not registered to vote (and you cared about it) you have have had a year or so to get it done. How many months have the pollies been banging on about the up-coming election? Too long.......

If you are not registered now then you deserve not to vote.

I agree, if they don't vote then they cannot whine about who gets in.
