I'd second the Stage 1 comment - most that get sold on ebay go for around the $2000 mark (What is that, something like 800pounds?).
Australian Series vehicles amaze UK fans with their lack of rust. And Stage 1's are more common because there are much larger distances to travel here, so more incentive to have a motor than can hit keep the vehicle at 100km/hr.
Unless you have a particular hankering for the recessed grill, an EFI motor or a 5speed gearbox (or love doing the work), you couldn't possibly do the conversion for the price of buying a factory V8.
