Hi All,
I've been having intermittent trouble in recent months with a starting battery that I purchased in July '06.
With the help of a neighbour (an NRMA Inspector) I decided that the battery was at fault and ordered a replacement (different Brand).
When I went to install the new battery, I saw that that the new battery had an insulating shoulder at the bottom of the posts. My previous battery (from China) did not.
I suspect that the holding bracket had been making periodic contact with the +'ve terminal, thereby flattening the battery.
I'll charge the "old" battery out of the car & check the voltage drain, but I think that I know the answer.
umm if the battery mounting strap was making contact with the +ve terminal it would either blow part of the terminal off OR weld itself to it till it was toasted...
some batteries come with a terminal preservative applied thats not so hot for conductive purposes and if you havent cleaned that off you can drop more than a volt across the terminal to the clamp...
