Unfortunately I must disagree with you there - If it was mandatory, then it would turn the back of the 'fender into a paddy wagon!
And it wouldn't look particularly good to the parents when I'm bussing half a scout troop around, either.

But yes, I agree with the general sentiment of keeping everything properly secured.

As far as I know it is illegal to sit behind a cargo barrier.

So if you use your very back row seats (6 or 7 seater etc) then you would have to remove the barrier each time.

If you have a Disco1 a cargo barrier is pretty much mandatory anyway since most of the packing room is vertical as it is such a shallow cargo area.

I agree with the initial statement (or Ladas's correction of said statment) though Im still waiting on one to come up at a reasonable price which I can fit and still fit my fridge in.

Im considering building my own as Im not a fan of the mounting style of the ones Ive seen but I need to check the legalities before I build my own.

Cargo barrier was the very first accessory I had fitted.

Would you like to give details of how yours saved you?

Just to add to the others comments. My wife and I are still alive because I had one fitted to my first Disco when it rolled. I also think it should be mandatory in any 4WD or station wagon. Safety isn't about looks.

I have had a cargo in my Defender since almost new and although I don't believe they should be mandatory, I like the idea that it might protect us.

I would like to make it more easily removeable as sometimes I want to sleep in the back but cannot without hours removing it. On some new ones they have a door which might make it easier.

It never happened without pics - and I have to move this old fella into the 21st century very soon and come to terms with technology - aka getting pics onto this site.

Basically, rolled 500m past Thredbo on the way to Jindabyne - the back was full of camping boxes - 3 rolls and camping boxes and no cargo barrier = trouble.

But... the cargo barrier acted as a roll bar - they are damned strong - but we need the pictures to show this.

I'm off to the NT on Friday so no hope of Barra1 and technology comprising before then - but in two weeks time........ let's pray and pictures will be forthcoming.
