As far as I know they're not on sale here yet, although I read a while ago someone in the states cracked the coding so they can be used with any network. Don't take it as gospel though.
I'm tempted by a new toy, the Iphone but was wondering if anyone has one working on an Australian network?
I'm with 3 and I've heard that this is the only network they don't work with. If i have to leave 3 so be it but I'd like to stay with them.
Any advice?

There are a heap for sale on eBay from Australian sellers who have cracked the locking protection but I just wanted to hear from anyone who is actually using one, in case they don't work so good over here.

My bad, I assumed you were talking about buying from a shop.
Apple just did a software upgrade which nullified all the cracked codes.
They can only be used on the AT&T network ( because Apple get a kickback), and all the modified ones now do not work at all.

They work ok over here, with the unlock mod.
As for them being turned into paperweights from Apple software updates, simply hold off updating until there's a new mod available.
The iPhone isn't as full featured as other handsets in the same price range, so make sure you look into what you'll miss out on. That said, it's probably just a matter of time until software updates enable such features.
I picked up a cracked one for a friend, no more than a week ago. Yes, if you update it, it becomes a 900$ paperweight. But hella cool for what it is. And does work on our networks cracked.
Whilst the iPhone is extremely cool, they are not 3G so I would wait until Apple update them.
Also no GPS either - in fact there are other, cheaper phones with plenty more features. The Dopod D810/HTC P3600 for example.
I have one and I unlocked it myself. Using it with Virgins Bean Counter plan. Probably the easiest and nicest phone I have ever used.
I have two staff with them and they work just fine, there is also now a crack to allow the phone to be used after the latest update is applied. So far the complaints are: No 802.1X authentication on WiFi - which is possibly a problem for those using them in Uni or corporate environments. 2: You cannot easily do a Bluetooth file trasnfer. 3: Sync'ing is via cable only currently. Otherwise my guys seem happy with them, both been using them as work phones for about 3 weeks, so they see about 20-30 calls a day. Battery life is acutally quite good by comparision to my Nokia.
