yep it looks like this summer is going to be damn hot
Hi there
Well I initally taken 14 days off work to put up my new shed - the first day 28' - second 41' - and the third at 10 am 37' and high northery winds.
Lets hope the weather improves or we will have a busy fire season indeed............
Well I have vented my frustrations.
PS they have forcasted thunderstorms tommorrow lets hope it hasnt forgotten how to rain.
All the best

Temperature here (officially) only up to 28 so far, forecast 32, humidity is 24%, wind WNW about 15kts.
Hot, dry and dusty!
But just because we have a hot and dry spring, does not mean that summer will necessarily be worse than usual. In one respect the fire season will be better than it might have been - relatively little growth since last summer, and lots of paddocks eaten almost bare, so hopefully won't be too bad a summer. You've got to be a bit optimistic!

Just had a look at the BOM's climate section.
http://www.bom.gov.au/silo/products/cli_chg/index.shtml
This puts the current drought (and whether it is related to global warming) in perspective.
For example, look at the rainfall anomaly series for the Murray-Darling Basin (or for Eastern Australia). This clearly shows we are in the sixth or seventh year of drought - but not as bad as 1958-1968, or, indeed, the entire period from the start of records up to about 1945.
But look at the temperature time series. While temperatures have generally increased in the last thirty years, they show no apparent correlation with periods of drought, and interestingly, diurnal temperature range has mostly been historically low in the last thirty years, increasing to long term averages only over the last ten years.
This suggests to me that although the increase in temperature may reflect global warming, there is zero evidence to suggest that this has anything to do with the drought.
Getting back to the present weather, October maximum temperatures have been high for the last three years, although there has been remarkably little overall shift compared to the variability from year to year. But you will note that the January or February temperatures do not always follow the October ones.
Some interesting data to look at there!
