Don';t want to pour water on your event, but,
'Halloween' when did that become an aussie tradition, we have enough yankisms here as it is, without importing pseudo events.

I agree entirely with you. I had never even heard of Halloween until long after I was an adult, and then only as a strange American custom. As far as being "celebrated" in Australia, it seems to have been introduced only in the last five years or so.

For some reason it seems not to have been introduced to Australia with the Irish influx of the nineteenth century.

Australia, I believe has enough of our own culture not to introduce even more American culture.

i entirely agree about the americanisms... personally i hate it and i promise this will be an english style halloween party, its just really an excuse for fancy dress and beers (lots of) with a bit of BBQ thrown in mixed with a lot of friends round too...

i cant quite work out why the 'younger' people here look up so much to america, when as you say there is so much going here.. mind you the TV doesnt help as its one american crime show after another..

once the house is finished we plan on investigating australia thoroughly!

Provided the kids don't start "Trick Or Treat"-ing then I'm okay with it.

It might start of with a bunch of young children (accompanied by a parent) dressed up in teh finest Hallowe'en get-up knocking on your door for a handful of sweets but then you'll eventually end up with teenage idiots trying to join in and egging your house if you tell 'em to sod off.
