Ahhh memories I had a E49 Charger in the 80's it was a b*stard for parts as Mitsubishi would not carry the old Chrysler parts.
Whilst the body was being repainted I ran the rebuilt 265motor in my Series 2a Landy which normally ran a Hemi 245.
I still remember a Proud owner of a new Toyota Sahara trying to keep up going to Kalbarri!! His wife asked how much the Landy cost at the Roadhouse and was not impressed being outdone by a 2k vehicle. I didnt tell her I was averaging 4.2km/lt though!!
The Chrysler race mechanic retired to Perth and many E38 and E49 Charger owners used to seek him out to service their cars. This was because he knew how to tune and balance the triple carb setup.

And just think I got offered Allan Moffats race GTHO a few years back for $75,000 and did not buy it, not that I could have afforded it anyway back then.

Yeah Craig, you should drop a starfire 4 into that torana and turn it into a Sunbird.. Noice!

When I was 15 (1981) the bloke next door to us had a Phase III. He traded it on a 911. Even then I couldn't understand why!

That estimate is absurd and set by auction houses, insurance companies, owners all trying to inflate the value. You'd be insane to buy a GTHO for $600k, and no way would you have to.

Don't get me wrong, I love them and I'm old enough to remember getting up at 5am as a 9 year old to watch Alan Moffatt put the Beast round the mountain. A family friend round the corner actually had a real one (silver/orange phase 3) he drove to work!! And I remember being gobsmacked at the cost of filling the tank. You'd hardly see change from $50. He was never quite happy with it. It was meant to do 145mph and on a straight road between Capel and Perth early in the morning he never got more than 137mph.

many, many years ago, an old girlfriends uncle had an XY GT and he let me take it for a run. Hit the rev limiter in top gear (IIRC, centrifugal spark cut in the dizzy at approx 7100 RPM)

Seems absurd to steal such a rare car with such a limited market. Lets face it - to prove that it is a real HO (and therefore $600k to someone who is willing to pay that) rather than a copy worth SFA you will need to show the serial number!

Fastest 4 door production car in the world at the time of its manufacture. I'd like to see a new FPV GT or Holdens equivalent do 1000km straight out of the factory around Bathurst with Mr Moffat pushing the pedals.

I'd bet both cars would drop their guts before reaching half way.
