Well the same 6 or 7 hundred thousand GTHO was about $100,000 fifteen or so years ago, so the car hasn't changed or it's history, just the desire of some cashed up blokes.

Interviews with men like Moffat, Bartlett, Goss, Carter and Co have eaqually said they were absolutely woeful as daily drivers and they were a compromise as race cars - but that was what the manufacturers ended up with to comply with the rules of the day. If you have a chance to drive a 30+ years old 'muscle car', be it Chev, GM-H, Ford or whatever - they're just an old car!! It is insane to price one at that much money. Look at the genuine, knowledgeable collectors (David Bowden) - he says only the race cars with accountable provenance have real value. The road goers and replicas are simply overpriced and not worth these values.

And every bit of an HO, GTS or E option Val was available through the manufacturer - it had to be. So when you look at it that way and speak to some (old) fellas who built them, thats all they are - production cars. On top of that, blueprinting was about it for development - until the mid to late 70's.

Great racing, fantastic noises and wonderful memories, but 700k for a car you can't drive??? and swap the running gear into a XY 500 and whats the difference - fuel tank, paint and stickers....oh and a little piece of tin on the firewall.

But as nice as that is, it is not a muscle car, but an exotic or sports car. The whole category of muscle cars is based around mass produced, budget level performance cars that the average person could buy.[/QUOTE]

I knew a bloke who had a GT-Ho in his garage and the ID plates in his safe. There was a bit of an industry in stolen cars for the ID's. Ex NSW police base model Falcons with the GT running gear were repainted and retrimmed using Falcon GS and Fairmont wrecks or stolen cars for the trim and jewellery and turned into GTs. Likewise with the NWS police Torana GTR's being turned into XU1.These were in production colours and virtually Torana GTR with XU1 except for the triple carbs. These were easy to pick for a person with the knowledge. They had special seats, thinner in the squab to fit mud gutted coppers in behind the wheel, and a wide spread pedal layout, presumably for big copper feet and boots. By the way, I don't know what the "special vehicle equipment" for the planned Torana LJ V8 would have been called but it was not XU2 as this was an option on Bedford CF vans. XU1 was "special vehicle equipment", not a model but a production option. The six cylinder Torana GTR was an 82911 andd a V8 would have been an 82811. XU3 was neutral colour headliner in lieu of coloured headliner. XU4 & XU5 were options uised on exported cars referring to light packages to meet legislation in other countries.

    I'm just forgetful, not biased.

Actually it would be more accurate to say that I am biased, but I am equally biased against Holden and Ford.

I am much more impressed by a vehicle that performs because it is clever. Give me finesse over brute force any day.
Sorry, facts slur was not aimed at you but just in general at some of the bs that comes out about cars and origins.
None of them are truly original, and none really any better than the other. Just personal preferance.
