Well the same 6 or 7 hundred thousand GTHO was about $100,000 fifteen or so years ago, so the car hasn't changed or it's history, just the desire of some cashed up blokes.
Interviews with men like Moffat, Bartlett, Goss, Carter and Co have eaqually said they were absolutely woeful as daily drivers and they were a compromise as race cars - but that was what the manufacturers ended up with to comply with the rules of the day. If you have a chance to drive a 30+ years old 'muscle car', be it Chev, GM-H, Ford or whatever - they're just an old car!! It is insane to price one at that much money. Look at the genuine, knowledgeable collectors (David Bowden) - he says only the race cars with accountable provenance have real value. The road goers and replicas are simply overpriced and not worth these values.
And every bit of an HO, GTS or E option Val was available through the manufacturer - it had to be. So when you look at it that way and speak to some (old) fellas who built them, thats all they are - production cars. On top of that, blueprinting was about it for development - until the mid to late 70's.
Great racing, fantastic noises and wonderful memories, but 700k for a car you can't drive??? and swap the running gear into a XY 500 and whats the difference - fuel tank, paint and stickers....oh and a little piece of tin on the firewall.
