Thanks for this thread ...after reading it I took out my Unifilter and went back to a paper one.
    No noticeable difference in performance.

    Oil analysis & interpretation

I do both. ALS are great guys too.

LCD Inc & I are in negotiation to release their range of superior lubricant technology here. So we may have a wider application base shortly & your samples could be tested under our program. I Need a few test agents though who know there stuff & have comparatives samples to baseline from.

PM me for details on this new joint development. Also who do you use stateside? etc.

This is a little off thread & perhaps I should start another one for Oils etc. Anyway if there are readers who have regular oil samples analyised I would like to hear from you by PM for comparative testing & product sampling.

*Advertising caveat* - I am not canvassing for business I am asking for contact from people who have regular sampling done already. I will not charge for samples. This is a testing phase. I'll start a new thread for it though.

I also correspond with Testand & may be conducting the same sample test with Aussie available products. Hopefully with the same support shown to Ken by Arlins compatriots. I sometimes wonder late at night is my ITG that good.

I will say this though. K&N are great performance filters for flowing. Ie they are race bred & being used out of context on road vehicles for daily driving is detrimental as pulldowns are not performed at the end of every week. They just cant resist the marketing temptation I 'spose. After all they do have performance data, but maybe held back on the particulate tests.

I have seen no deviation from average on my oil tests on switching over from Coopers paper to ITG. The ITG is a 3 stage foam particulate gauze & is not as open weave as the K&N.

Shamelessly nicked from LRA forum. Think Jim Atrill who originally posted it is a LR mechanic in South Africa

If you want your bores to look like this after honing - I didn't dare to do more. This after 50 000 miles of a K&N

The engine has since done 62 000 miles with paper filters and is running ok.
Another reason NOT to use K & N in Land Rovers???

    Regards

Any oil supplier can do oil sampling, Castrol are good like their oil, Re: precleaner, if it s restricting air flow it s too small. They come big enough to suit 19L Cummins!

a very cheap addition to your snorkle head is a pair of stockings. These are especially effective if you have one of the "ram" type snorkle heads that has a slight angle on the head so that the top of the intake is further out than the bottom of the intake.

turn your snorlke head around so it faces backwards and slide the stocking over the top then hold it in place so that is firmish on the face of the intake grill with a big elastic band. take the second leg and pull that over the top so that it hangs loosely then secure that in place with another laccy.

and before you ask, no you clown, fishnets will not work.

The idea is that the tightly pulled part stops the loose part from being sucked in and as the loosely fitted part waggles in the wind it shakes the dust and dirt that accumulates off.

Dont know how well it works (i havent tried it) but the theory of it sounds sound....

Yeh! Guaranteed to let at 38% more dust in over a paper filter, for christ's sake hold your K&N filter up to a light and see the reason they dont filter out dust, use a bit of commonsense, Regards Frank

Yeah but bet that is not 1 millions miles in dust and garenteed for what . Not protecting your engine ,

I run both. Have an ITG for around town and a paper one for outback. Have this for both of the defenders . I have found there is a problem with the oil on the K&N getting cloged when covered in dust. And then a real pain in the middle of nowhere to clean out
