Her old man likes to put the boot in every now and then with my lack of skills in this area.

One recent purchase in my book upped the "feeling like a real man" with my first trailer. Now some may say it is the first beer, or the first bit of nookie, but there are many metrosexual type fella's and those that enjoy the "sausage" , who would experience same. However a trailer to me puts it into "real man" territory. Ever since I have had it, I want to trailer stuff around, any opportunity will do, but there was one thing missing.......to finish of the "real man" feeling. And that was being able to reverse it.

So far all my journy's have consisted of ensuring it was one way in, one way out. A recent journey where I had to deliver my 19's off the D3 entailed a visit to a client, into the city to drop off the tyres and swing back to Brissie South to pick up the kids after school. I was fine with the notion till SWMBO pointed out "Umm hunny, what happens if you have to reverse, you do realise you are going into the city and all over the place". Well panic started to set in, luckily I was able to do drive in and straight onwards for the whole trip.

That leads us up to this weekend. The new house we bought had a shed with a tonne of crap in it, so got the trailer in there, filled her up and off to the big tip ( wasn't going to risk the local drop off tip). It was late arvo so figured there wouldnt be many around so hopefully, fingers crossed, could just pull up to the side and dump. Turned out to be the case....phew . Went back today and got another load, palms a bit sweaty this time as was early afternoon, and to be sure as we rounded the bend.......yep every man and his dog and only option would be to reverse in. I did have a fleeting thought of just buggering off, but what sort of example was that for the kids in the car .

I drove along till I could find a big enough gap between 2 cars, pulled all the way around....most likely 20-30 metres from the tip edge....and started the backing up. This was Mansville here, plenty other blokes reversing, no wuckers, taking crap off their trailers, trucks, utes, vans etc. Plus I knew I couldn't embarress the D3, so I remember instructions that had been given previously by smirking mates ( you know who you are) and turned left to go right, then right to go left, then ****, went a wrong turn and started to jack knife. Bloke to the left started to look a little worried in the rear view mirror with this big trailer aimed at his ute . Came forward to straighten up, then back again. What seemed forever, I finally had my proud real man moment . Got out of the D3 and looked at my handy work, pulled up with a metre to spare and was as proud as punch. However when I suggested reveresing the trailer down our rather steep and windy driveway the kids empahatically yelled "NNOOOO". But at least I am on my way

What's with all the gay innuendo? Backing trailers is not about manliness, it's about lateral thinking and implementing the correct methodology... which is why both men and women can do it if they apply themselves. I dare say there would be hundreds of gay people who can back a trailer properly. Perhaps the gentleman or woman who reverse NM's house into position (within 4 inches) could have been gay?

I agree and my comments about the tip being a place where a man needs to feel like a man was not:

    a) suggesting that being a man was about being straight; or
    b) suggesting that when depositing rubbish I need to feel a man.

There are plenty of moments when I have felt very straight but not very manly and some of these moments involve trailers.

Mate the whole thread, even when I started it is all a bit tongue in cheek........geez not everything has to be serious in this world . I don't really need to back a trailer to feel manly, 4 kids and one on the way is enough for me

    Regards

I actually prefer to stick to this quote:

"Better an bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy"
