even with party ice it should keep for a week......
as long as there is enough ice to start off with...........

you need to control how often you open it.......especially if you have kids.....
and if you keep adding heat to it.....in the form of warm cans for example....then it will melt the ice quicker......
if everything is chilled from the start.......then the insulation will be sufficient to keep it that way for the claimed number of days......

your normal el-cheapo esky will keep ice for a couple of days......

We got ours for $60 plus $27 delivery. Although the price in the trading post is still pretty cheap if you don't want to buy through an ebay auction.

We took two of these across the Simpson. And I've used mine for other camping trips. It's sturdy, but it won't hold ice for 3 days. I used crushed ice, put it in and kept it in the kitchen to see how long it would last before I ever took it on a trip. I had water in a couple of days.

Using block ice (or frozen solid water bottles - less mess, cool water for days) and filling it to the brink, will help it last longer. My experiment had a mostly empty esky.

We bought them for $70ea at the Wantirna market (factory 2nd - had some scratches), so it's been good value.

even better if you rig up a compressor and the rest of the bits from a fridge to them.....

and...whilst on the subject of coolers......
    anyone know anything about these......?
they list them as a retail of around $1400 to $1500 then put a but it now price of half that figure......

55LITRES CAR PORTABLE FRIDGE/FREEZER 12V/24VDC RPP$1500 - eBay, Food Storage, Esky, Camping, Hiking, Outdoors, Sport. (end time 10-Dec-07 20:32:07 AEDST)
    got me confused......?

they look like the ones Kmart sell made by a company called scorpion if i remember right? they are about $800 at kmart i think. may not be quite as big.

Did you notice the clever use of current rating.. 2.5A at 24v... that means 5A at 12v... not quite an engel or waeco is it?

nice that it has both fridge and feezer tho...

    Thanks

    Steve

i saw that too......but with the difference you can afford a third battery and an SC40 to run it......and still be better off.........

if you were camping in a caravan park with a powered site.......what more could you ask for......?
