Thanks for letting me know about your TDI.. I have taken the plunge and am buying a 98 TDI with 113K on the clock. Service history / condition seems to support these K's. Pick it up next week.

Sure did - what Murray thought was that previous owner must have cooked the head after losing water, the turkey of a mechanic that worked on it shaved it much too much, put it back together, pistons then went into head and low and behold things went belly up as bits of metal were pushed beyond the limit.... Now has nice new head, pistons, rings, bottom end done up etc, etc. Now runs really well - surprise, surprise,... instead of spewing out it's innards and sounding like a piston was going to be speared through engine. Mind you we were driving around quite nicely on only 2 cylinders with any decent compression. Nice car - anyone interested.
